Seizing the Day

Our MD Eileen Dumore starts her walk today along the route to Santiago de Compostela. We will be keeping you up to date with her progress through this blog. I've decided to post Eileen's own words today to explain why she is taking on this tough but ultimately rewarding task..

'At 60 years of age I have decided to walk 264 kilometres alone as a pilgrim to Santiago de Compostela.

Why?

I am 60 years old this year but being in good health and full of energy, feel only 40. Although I hope to remain fit and active in the future I find the thought of only having perhaps another 20 years or so left to 'fit everything in' quite scary! I therefore feel an impetus to do something now rather than later.

The last 4 years have been difficult ones as I have had to help my husband fight cancer twice; fortunately he is now in remission. I need to do something for myself.

Have an adventure!

During my trip I am determined to clear my head and hatch plans to make the most of the last part of my life. When I think how quickly the last 20 years have gone, I realise that from now on, I must not waste my time.

I will start my journey on the 11th of May 2012 and walk from Astorga to Santiago. I will carry a rucksack on my back with all my belongings and stay in Refugio's en route; for someone who likes good hotels and full suitcases this will be a challenge.... I hope to arrive on Sunday the 27th. May.'

Everyone at Goko is very proud of Eileen's drive and courage and we wish her all the very best of luck.

Santiago de Compostella

Less than 3 weeks to go!!

Eileen the person behind the Goko brand is going to road test Goko over 164 miles. She will walk as a pilgrim along the "Camino" from Astorga to Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain. Pilgrims have been walking this route since the middle ages. Over a period of 2 weeks she will trial Goko healing cream on all her and her fellow pilgrims skin problems.

Await miracles from the miracle cream along the way.

Follow her progress here from the 12th May.

Warrior Scars?

When we were first introduced to Goko, we knew that it would be ideal for sportsmen. The anti bacterial properties of tea tree makes our cream brilliant for treating cuts and grazes, whilst centella promotes the growth of connective tissue and collagen production, making it highly effective in minimising scars.

We decided our toughest test market would be rugby players and if they liked it, the quality of the healing powers of Goko would be proven.

Quite a few people told us that we were wrong: 'rugby boys like their scars' 'rugby players won't be interested in creams and potions' are just some of the comments we received.

When we launched Goko in the UK we were very lucky to get Saracens and England Wing David Strettle to agree to be our ambassador and following on from his lead, we now number stars such as Ugo Monye, Danny Care and Tom Varndell as Goko users. We have Goko fans playing for Premiership clubs, the England 7s side, and just this week we have had a request from the England training camp for some samples.

We've been getting some fantastic feedback about Goko's effectiveness, especially on post op scars (a professional hazard...)

It seems that real men do take care of their skin!

Goko at the Festive Gift Fair

Last November we were at the Festive Gift Fair in Birmingham. We enjoy having a presence at this kind of event as it gives us the opportunity to meet our customers and the hundreds of people who suffer from minor skin problems such as eczema. During the 5 days of the show, in excess of 35,000 people came through the doors and as we were fortunate enough to be sited near the main entrance, we saw many visitors early on in their visit. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our product we applied Goko Cream to a number of the skin complaints presented to us and asked people to return if they were satisfied that Goko Cream had made a difference. The results were impressive; nearly everyone came back, delighted with the improvement in their conditions. Lucy, a 10year old girl who had a very angry eczema type rash on the back of her knees came to see us. Her mother told us that she has not been walking properly for days due to the discomfort. She applied some Goko Cream and we were delighted when they returned a few hours later with Lucy having walked, without pain or itching, around the show all day. A 15 year old girl that we met had red raw skin on the inside her elbows. She tried Goko and a few hours later the inflammation had calmed down to virtually nothing with little evidence of the previous rash. We saw hands suffering from eczema, rashes and dry cracked areas; all showed a marked improvement after Goko use. Mature skins particularly suffer because as we age our skin becomes thinner. A number of older people with tender shins, sores and dry itchy legs shared their skin problems with us. In these cases Goko helped instantly to soothe and heal and if use is continued, will prove highly effective in repairing the robustness of the skin due to the centella content which helps in the regeneration of collagen. So many people told us that they had tried everything for their particular skin complaints and nothing had worked but now Goko Cream had given them relief. We really love getting face to face feedback like this and hearing our customers' experiences. We would really like to hear your story. Please contact us at info@goko.co.uk

Getting Older?

We were very pleased to see more gorgeous pictures of Debbie Harry and Dame Helen Mirren in the press over the last few weeks. Both of them are looking fabulous and arr continuing with successful careers, well into their 60s.

My own Great Uncle, Fred Salter celebrated his 100th birthday and recently qualified as a ballroom dancing teacher, having re taken up the hobby at 92 after a gap of some 60 years!

We are no longer being defined by our numerical ages; a recently published survey announced that the majority of the British public believe middle age now lasts into our 70s...

Age defying largely depends on attitude (although good genes do help!) A balanced diet, exercise and a disciplined beauty regime will help to hold back the years and when the odd emergency breaks out, Goko can help to restore the appearance and balance of the skin.

As we get older our skin becomes thinner and takes longer to repair itself. Goko can help speed up the regeneration process due to its active ingredient, Centella. Centella is a proven builder of collagen and connective tissue which helps to promote healing and aids in the minimising of scarring.

Give our cream a try - Goko skin is confident skin!

Uncle Fred - still enjoying a glass of wine!

La Manga Superstar 7s

Back from La Manga Club for a week now and have just about recovered!

The brainwave of our ambassador, England Rugby star David Strettle, The La Manga 7s completed a second successful year including teams from the UK and South Eastern Spain, with David and Saracens team mates Andy Saull and Noah Cato roped in for good measure! David is hoping that the tournament will grow in size and eventually attract players from all over Europe.

It's a great opportunity to play or watch some fast paced rugby and netball, enjoy the sun and experience some brilliant night life.

The sport isn't too serious, although the ladies seemed far more professional than the guys (what's new there then?) and everyone certainly played hard over the 3 nights. Excellent food provided by La Finca and the Si Bar plus the odd alcoholic beverage(!) fired up the visiting teams for some highly enjoyable karaoke and dancing (Andy Saull - don't give up your day job!)
